In a pure command socialism economic system all goods and wealth are suppose to be distributed equally among everyone from the president to the peasant. Pure command socialism can never happen because there will always be a few individuals who are not looking out for the greater good of the country but the greater good for themselves. Mr. Chen Liangyu, 61 years old, is the latest person to get caught, and sentenced to 18 years in jail.
In September of 2006 Mr. Liangyu was ousted from his position as Shanghai Communist party secretary. He has been found guilty for accepting bribes, abusing his power and neglecting his duties while serving as Shanghai party secretary. This has been the highest level of purge since the mid-1990's. His lawyers have not commented if they are going to appeal the verdict. The sentence also carries a 300,000 yuan or about 43,000 U.S. dollars. The initial allegations were from misuse of a city's $1.2 billion pension fund. The money was used to build skyscrapers, sports facilities and other projects to make the city look more modern. More than 20 different sentences have been handed down, but due to the high ranking status of Mr. Liangyu he has gotten most of the attention.
This was a good decision by China to help end, or subside the corruption that has been going on by its high ranking officials for so long. President Hu is making huge strides to try and make the economy as fair and free of corruption as possible. I'm sure other stings in the future will oust more corrupt officials.
(This is suppose to be a picture of China with its skyscrapers I thought it would be fitting)
